NEED IDEAS of dietary additive for dog with itchy skin.? was wondering about a drop of cooking oil?

no fleas..just has an itch since winter weather has set in. prob some dry skin. itch could be anywhere so topical spray would not work. would prefer to use something on hand rather than medicine unless it would be a small benadryl dose. thanks for your help.
