What was macbeth crime in act iv?

In Act IV, Macbeth meets again with the three Witches, who tell him to beware of the Thane of Fife (MacDuff). In scene i, Macbeth decides to seize Fife and kill MacDuff's wife and children, which later happens in scene ii.
